Council criminalised householders CALL FOR INVESTIGATION INTO HOW CITY
COUNCIL CRIMINALISED HOUSEHOLDERS
Limerick City Council is engaging in a campaign to
criminalise people simply because they fail to respond
to a questionnaire on refuse, a spokesman for Republican
Sinn Fein said today.
Joe Lynch of Beechgrove Avenue in Ballinacurra Weston,
said that people in the area have been shocked to discover
that they have been brought to court by the City Council
over their failure to reply to a letter.
This type of carry on is typical of Big Brother and the
novels of George Orwell where bureaucracy is gone
mad, he said.
The Council claim that people did not respond to a
questionnaire on disposal of household and because they
failed to respond, they were brought to court.
In one case the person is fully paid up to a refuse
collection service so the scene is now set for a legal
showdown with the City Council.
It would be quite easy for the City Council to track
those who are contracted to a refuse collection service
simply by requesting the list of customers.
It now appears the Council have gone beyond themselves
in this latest action against householders and we are
now calling for a full investigation into how innocent
people can gain criminal records at the behest of the
Limerick City Council.
