'Limerick City Council must come clean' - RSF
'HOUSE PURCHASE BY LIMERICK IN CLARE MUST BE QUERIED' The refusal of Limerick City Council to disclose how many dwellings the local authority has purchased for disruptive families in neighbouring County Clare has been described as a backward decision by a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein. Des Long from Corbally, the chairman of the Munster RSF Executive said the lack of co-operation between Limerick and Clare is a cause for concern is the light of the serious re-housing problems facing the city. Limerick City Council is purchasing houses in County Clare on the outskirts of the city. The fact is people from the city are being re-housed in rural parts of Clare. With the establishment of the Limerick City Regeneration Boards in Moyross and Southill the city is facing the enormous challenge of re-housing disruptive families engaged in anti-social behaviour. It will be no solution if such families are simply transferred into County Clare. The Limerick City Council must come clean and disclose how many houses they have purchased in County Clare and how many families they have re-housed in the county. Exporting those involved in anti-social behaviour by stealth to County Clare is no solution to Limerick’s housing problems.
