Phoenix Park murders I am currently researching the Phoenix Park murders. I wondered whether anyone can recommend a book that gives an extremely detailed account of the arrests of the National Invincibles and the ensuring trials. I am intrigued by the possibility that James Carey might have been an agent provocateur and the murders designed to discredit the Fenians. Does anyone have any opinions as to whether this could be possible. Also, I haven't found any information so far on the subsequent fate of the other key informer, Michael Kavanagh. Does anyone know what became of him?

Senior British agents were executed by Irish partisans. I cant see how you can describe this operation as murder any more than the execution of the Cairo gang during the Tan war was murder.
