Positive experiences for young people
MOYROSS CLUB CHAIRMAN APPEALS FOR MORE POSITIVE ROLE MODELS Young people in the troubled Moyross estate in Limerick have a great future if they channel their energies and talent into sport, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today. Mick 'the Quill' Ryan, the chairman of a local Moyross soccer club said that the young people of the area are already engaging in the game and their commitment is an example to others to become involved in sporting activity. "The success of the soccer club is one small example of a positive and encouraging approach to personal development" he said. "Very often the young people of Moyross are seen as having considerable disadvantages but we in the club have seen how participation in sport can be a positive experience for young people". The club provides a constructive outlet for young people who in turn become role models for others in the local community. We need to provide more positive experiences for the young people of the area and offer them alternatives to the drink and drug culture which bombards them every day. It is only by taking part in sporting activities and in local clubs that young people can begin to see and appreciate that there is an alternative to the misery caused by the abuse of drink and drugs in society.
