RIA Dictionary of the Irish Language on line Im delighted to see that the RIA Dictionary Of the Irish Language is now on line. This is by far the most comprehensive dictionary of Irish, taken mostly from Old Irish, Middle Irish and Early Modern Irish sourses. Its a massive work of 2,525 pages, which began in 1913 and was not finished till 1976.
Readers of the first page might be surprised to see that the funding for the digital version of the DIL came from the British Government: "The quality and any range of research supported not only provides social and cultural benefits but also contributes to the economic success of the UK," as the UK funders tell us.
