I'd like a translation, if anyone can help. I'd like 'Remember our fallen volunteers' or 'Never forget our patriot dead' or something along those lines.

Can you translate the song Óró Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile for me?

Can you translate the song Óró Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile for me? Óró Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Anois ar theacht an tsamhraidh! Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Anois ar theacht an tsamhraidh! 'Sé do bheatha a bhean ba léanmhar, B' é ár gcreach tú bheith i ngéibhinn, Do dhúiche bhreá i seilibh meirleach... Is tú díolta leis na Gallaibh! Tá Gráinne Mhaol ag teacht thar sáile, Óglaigh armtha léi mar gharda, Gaeil iad féin is ní Gaill ná Spáinnigh... Is cuirfidh siad ruaig ar Ghallaibh! A bhuí le Rí na bhFeart go bhfeiceann, Muna mbíonn beo ina dhiaidh ach seachtain, Gráinne Mhaol is míle gaiscíoch... Ag fógairt fáin ar Ghallaibh! --//--//--//--//--//--//--//-- Óró! You are welcome home! Óró! You are welcome home! Óró! You are welcome home! Now that summer is coming Welcome Oh woman who was so afflicted, It was our ruin that you were in bondage, Our fine land in the possesion of theives, And sold to the foreigners Grainne Mhaol is coming over the sea, Armed warriors along with her as guard, They are Irishmen, not English or Spanish, And they will rout the foreigners May it please the God of Miracles that we may see, Although we only live a week after it, Grainne Mhaol and a thousand warriors, Dispersing the foreigners

Re: On-line audio pronunciation guide?
A Chara, Where could one find an on-line audio pronunciation guide? Something like the current NIFC lesson is fine, or Daltai, but any other guides would be good to know about. Go raibh maith agat, I don't really know if there is an audio guide, but here is a good place to look for audio lessons. http://www.byki.com/

Hey guys, I can never get the NIFC Irish language link to work- anybody else experience the same thing? Also, there is a long poem by the band Barleycorn entitled, "Who Dares to Say Forget?"- it is featured in an Irish Republican video on the website. Towards the end of the poem, the speaker says something like, "niee-shercan-gu-shar-shaw" is the war-cry of the Gael"...I'm guessing it's "No Peace without Freedom- with Saoirse being the last word, but I'm not sure. Anybody know? Also can somebody please some common/famous Irish Republican phrases/war cries in Gaelic ( I know Tiocfaidh ár lá) Thanks, slán (how would I say "my friends"?) Seán I have never tried the NIFC link. nil siochana gan saoirse... is no peace w/o freedom, I think. a cairdre... friends I know very little gaelic, I just try to be helpful. so PLEASE anybody jump right in.

Seán Ní síocháin gan saoirse= no peace without freedom. (I love that poem) Mo chairde=my friends a chairde=used when addressing your friends in person Bás nó an bua=Death or victory (Irish equivalent of with my shield or on it  ) Beir bua=Until victory Ní neart go cur le chéile=There is no strength without unity

Doire go deo!- 03-27-2006

Ill gladly step in Kat  I always liked, "Bás nó an bua!" Death or Victory literally, i wud've thought the two words should be switched like the way we say Victory or death in English, but thats the phrase as Gaeilge :? "Tír gan teanga, Tír gan anam" a famous quote of P H Pearse meaning "A country without a language is a country without a soul" "Ní saoirse go cur le chéile" no freedom until unity An important one for the anti-GFA parties/groups to remember IMO, if only they'd heed it The same's for the phrase that can be heard in that song "Ní síocháin go saoirse" no peace til freedom My Friends would be "mo chairde" maw har-ja Tá súil agam go gcuidíonn sé sin leat Hope that helps
