Doire go deo!- 05-03-2006

No, its gibberish im afraid. Theres no accent on "Is" (its called a fada in Irish) either. I am Irish is : Is Éireannach mé.

mé is aéirinn- should be an accent over the i in 'is' but computer won't let me, anyway does this translate, "I am Irish"? To put fadas (accents) in text you can use the following: While holding down the left hand alt key and using the right hand keypad type the following sequence of numbers á 0225 é 0233 í 0237 ó 0243 ú 0250 Á 0193 É 0201 Í 0205 Ó 0211 Ú 0218

Alternatively, or if you've no memory for such 'shortcuts' like myself, you can find (if you're running a Windows O/S) the Character Map tool. It's typically found via the Start Menu > Accessories > System Tools. What I do is create a shortcut to the Character Map and put it on my Quick Launch Toolbar for easy access, then just use it for copy & pasting.

(Up the Republic) Slán, Fenian

Btw, thanks for the reply above about "I am Irish", but how do you pronounce it? Is Éireannach mé "ees erin-ack- may"?

Saerbhreathach- 05-06-2006

I can't verify the authenticity of these pronounciations, but have found these sites useful: A GLOSSARY OF IRISH TERMS AND ACRONYMS (includes pronounications) http://uk.geocities.com/fenian32eire/acronyms.htm Irish Phrases & Words http://www.ireland-information.com/irishphrases.htm Irish Lesson Handout with Celtic Harpist Dennis Doyle http://english.glendale.cc.ca.us/gaelic.html
