why no protests
I would like to ask the opinion of the people on this board about the absence of protests in portlaoise gaol. I have a relative in there at the moment and feel that there real reluctance on the prisoners to protest, it is in the constitution and in times past prisoners protested against being criminalized. The prisoners in the north have made valiant a temps to do this but republicans in the south are sitting and letting it happen. If they went on a dirty or etc people on the outside would listen and it would bring attention to our cause

Who are we to ask them for more? If anything, I should contribute more. That's my view.

agreed Saer, If there comes a time when prisoners are again pushed to a place where they feel thier only option is to make the sacrifices and endure the absolute physical and mental hell that protesting within thier prisons brings, I will support them 100%. Frankly though, as someone on the outside, I would rather NOT have them do it. Life within a prison is torture even at it's best. I think we can ALL do more from the outside to spotlight the fact that blanket protests or not, there are still a great many good men imprisoned for the crime of believing in Ireland as it should be. Welcome to the board however irishsuntzu, hope to have many conversations with you.

just to clarify my point!
Sorry lads I didn’t word that properly. What I meant was that the prison serves in the “republic”(free state) have pulled a master stroke in criminalizing the p.o.w,s .they have brought the prisons into line with the E.U recommendations that were put forward in 2001. It stated that prisons’ in the free state were in a state of ill repair and sided on the barbarian. It issued substantial fines against the government and told them to clean up there act. As a result of this the T.Vs wear brought in and radios in some cases, education facilities etc. but prisoners in the midlands(not the main portlaoise prison.) but the criminals part had access to the new luxury’s before the p.o.ws,it seems our lads were the LAST! to receive these human rights witch were ordered by the E.U. as a republican the powers of dail eireann and the institutions that are governed by the freestate are illegal! And we as republicans have to show the difference between the criminals and politicals. This line is purposely being blurred by the government and a separation to a new facility would be a good campaign to fight for. The gutter press are spreading roomer after roomer, when they say a crack down drugs in portlaoise they don’t just say E,1 it the hole prison that is tarnished I just making a point lads and I no were out here but it could change someday? I hope I never see the inside of a 6 by 10 but who knows what might happen with interment in and all!!.
